ASTHMA Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease which causes obstruction in airway pathway of lungs which results in breathing problems including shortness of breath. The inflammation also causes bronchial hyper-responsiveness (BHR) to a variety of stimulus. Inflammation causes recurrent episodes of wheezing , breathlessness ,chest-tightness and coughing problems. History :- Word "Asthma" is a Greek word which means "panting". 2000 yrs ago , Hippocrates used the word "Asthma" to describe episodic shortness of breath.
